In April of this year (2004) A London newspaper reported findings that were released in Marbella, Spain by the Spanish Neuro Diagnostic Research Institute and conducted by Dr. Michael Klieeisen, which stated “What Cell Phones Can Do To Youngster’s Brain In Two Minutes”. Apparently, a cell call lasting only two minutes can open the skull’s blood-brain barrier in children and adults, by allowing toxins in the blood to cross this barrier and enter into the brain region, and attack brain cells. During that same time frame, natural electrical activity is also disrupted in a child’s brain for as long as several hours following.
A growing number of medical experts are now questioning whether children should use these phones at all. “Doctors fear that disturbed brain activity in children could lead to psychiatric and behavioral problems or impair learning ability”.
Dr. Gerald Hyland, who is a mobile phone adviser to the British government, stated that he is “extremely disturbed” by these findings. These results demonstrate that children’s brains are affected for long periods of time even after a very short-term use of a cellular phone call. “These children brain wave patterns are abnormal and that way for some time after. This one finding alone can affect their mood and ability to learn in class, if used before, during or after that time. (See images above) This would then cause them to lose the ability to concentrate and remember, making it a lot harder to learn, if possible at all.
Dr. Hyland claimed also that mobile phone usage is linked with aggressive behavior in children. Older studies demonstrated that anyone exposed to mobile phone radiation might exhibit “radical changes” in behavior and moods. Registering low radio and microwave frequency power levels in urban areas in 1975, Dr. William Blise discovered clinically diagnosed violence and depression. These symptoms are seen more pronounced in more susceptible children. [EMF Health Report March/April, 1995]
Dr. Blise also declared “this makes one wonder whether children, with their brains more susceptible, should even use a mobile phone at all.”
The above findings really makes one wonder, especially about our future, when you also consider a new survey that came out showing that 87% of eleven to sixteen-year-olds own cellular phones; 40% of them spend fifteen or more minutes a day talking on them and 70% stated that they would not stop using them even in the face of government warnings.
Dr Klieeisen stated “We never expected to see this continuing activity in the brain, we are worried that the delicate balances that do exist, such as the immunity to disease and infection, could be altered by interference with chemical balances in the brain.” [Sunday Mirror April/04]
Dr. Hyland emphasized that “This information shows that there really is not a safe amount of cellular phone use. We do not know what lasting damage is being done by these exposures. If I were a parent I would now be extremely wary about allowing my children to use a mobile phone even for a short period. My advice would be to avoid these phones.”
